One thing I'm not pleased about is the inconsistency in the color of the Moda Bella white. It's not one consistent shade of white. But hopefully using a white batting will help even things out. It's actually not as bad as the picture portrays, that's more of a shadow from my boyfriend who is holding it. He's 5'7" so it's a good sized quilt, perfect for curling up with it and a good book on the couch.

Second top finish of 2013!
I finished this quilt top today! My second for 2013, this is a really fun quilt and pretty large for just using one charm pack. A while back I won a charm pack of Joy from Kate Spain and I must say, it's a gorgeous line! I found some Flurry FQs at a LQS on sale that I was planning on using for the borders but instead decided to use my binding fabric for the borders. It turned out to be the perfect choice! Those zig zags really make the quilt complete.

New Pattern!
I've had this quilt done for a while now, I just had to deal with the winter blahs weather wise to get some decent photos. This one is called Around the Block and uses a charm pack and a jelly roll. I used Central Park by Kate Spain. That girl has not designed a line I didn't like! I've been a stalker since Verna.
SO, here is my new quilt pattern!
Sorry for the last 2 crappy pics, they were taken on my wall and I didn't really have much space to work in a photo. The trees really are straight, they just look wonky.
I have this in my etsy shop if you're interested. You can use the coupon code newpattern for a 10% discount, valid through next Saturday! I have both PDF and hard copies available!

January UFO results
Here are the Dresdens!!! I didn't get them tacked down to a backing, but I'm probably going to sew them to a wide piece of fabric since I opted for a single color. So, here are the plates!
I'm so in love with these blocks it's not even funny. I often oogle them just because they're so gorgeous.

dresden plates
Here are only some of my finished dresden plates. All the Bliss ones have been completed and I'm taking a break from working on the Ruby ones. In case you're wondering, I got 12 complete plates with some leftover petals from 2 charm packs.
I'm really excited to see this come together! The hard part is trying to find a suitable color for the background that matches both Bliss and Ruby, right now I'm kinda leaning toward Kona Bone, but still unsure of it since it's an off white and Bliss and Ruby have stark whites. I'm going to stop at a mega JoAnn later today to try and find a match.

origins finish
So I finally got another quilt finished! This is A Ritzy Cracker Quilt from the moda bake shop. I used Origins from Basic Grey, this pattern calls for 2 charm packs. I'm so addicted to that company's stuff it's not even funny. I absolutely LOVE it, both fabric and paper. I've made quilts using Figgy Pudding and Blush already. I have ONE tiny charm pack of Fruitcake I'm saving for something. But on to pics!
This is the front, I quilted it in a dark brown and left the white parts untouched except for the triangles around the edges, I quilted those just for stability while binding.
Here you can see the back and binding better. I was able to find just enough yardage for the back at Burgundy Buttons. The binding I bought at a LQS and managed to freak out the staff there when I went in to buy it, story is after the last picture :p
And who doesn't love a rolled up quilt?? My daughter LOVED this quilt and was so happy to work on it with me yesterday, she stayed awake until it came out of the dryer so she could sleep with it. None of my quilts get used until their washed :)
So about the LQS, I was working one day and got a call to a nursing home that ended up being canceled as we were arriving so when we got told to go post at a different hospital I decided to hit up this shop on the way there to see what they had left of Origins since they had a bunch of yardage a few months back. You would NEVER know this quilt shop exists unless you pay close attention, it's a non-descript house with a small sign that says Quilters Heaven. My partner and I pull up, in the ambulance of course, walk inside and all the ladies inside started asking if everything was ok! It sure was, just doing some shopping on shift :) It was on the way to where we were going to we just popped in. They quickly recovered from their scare. **disclaimer: we're allowed to shop on shift, as long as we answer our calls and do what we gotta do they're ok with it. all they ask is we conduct ourselves in a way that shows the company in a positive way, which we do**
I also entered this quilt in the MBS contest of the month. Got in in just the nick of time, finished it yesterday, photographed it this morning, uploaded the pics in between calls today and got it posted to flickr. Talk about waiting til the last minute!

i'm so ecstatic, this one gave me tons of fits in every way possible but i learned a lot from it. it's in the washer right now so I can't wait to see how it comes out! i think i'm going to lay this on her bed for when she gets home today, i can't wait for Valentine's day! i have an ER clinical tonite and won't be home when she gets home from school so i think that she will love coming home to this surprise on her bed. don't have measurements yet, will post them when its out of the wash.

quilty goodness!
and FINALLY got one of the 2 christmas quilts quilted and the binding stitched to the front
i did a really crappy job on this one, it only puckered in one place but i didn't sew all the strips as straight as i thought and there was some fullness in the top. i did some really wonky lines as quilting, hopefully when it's washed it'll be decent looking. i'm hoping to get the binding hand stitched to the back today. it's going to be a Valentine's Day gift for my Lexi girl.

new goodies to play with!
figgy pudding, blush, alexander henry, some joanns stuff, and I also have a hushabye layer cake and blush charm pack on the way. um, yea. kinda went shopping, but just a little.
I got free shipping on the figgy pudding jelly roll, free shipping on the blush jelly roll plus it was only $26.50(!), free shipping on the blush charm pack, and the stuff at joanns was all on clearance. yea, I'm justifyin' it all :p
What started the buying frenzy? Well, I had wanted the figgy pudding for a LONG time and now that it's becoming scarce I decided it was time to pounce. Got a jelly roll, a turnover, 2 yards of the green damask, and 1 yard of the white peppermints. I'm planning on using the Strippin' Time pattern from Green Fairy Quilts.
The blush you ask? Well, yea that's just because it's awesome and I <3 basic grey! I'm a huge fan of their scrapbooking paper so it's only natural I'd adore their fabric. Plus $26.50, with FREE shipping?! Um, ok!
Ah, yes Hushabye. Love that one too. I joined Rachel's Pinwheel Sampler Quilt Along and it called for a layer cake, I saw it and immediately thought Hushabye. So, I bought one the last ones floating around on Etsy. Should be here early next week!
The Joann's stuff was just plain on sale. 50cents for fat quarters, and that awesome little roll of brown goodness? That's binding, yup, 12 yards of 2.5 inch binding. For $3.97. Yep, in my cart, plus it goes very well with the figgy pudding and blush.
In other news, I finished up all my blocks for the modern siggy swap over there in my sidebar, I've started piecing the blocks from the scrappy christmas block swap hosted by modernjax over the summer, and I played around with making some string blocks.

are you ready for this post?!?!?!
You really sure, I really don't want you passing out at the fact I've completed TWO(!) yes, TWO quilt tops in a matter of just a few weeks. I'm the queen of procrastination, that's just how I roll, so doing BOTH of these while I still have a quilt sandwich sitting as a UFO in my shed, is not something to balk about.
This is my son's quilt, it's made using a variation of the disappearing 9 patch. I used 4 Arcadia charm packs, I actually still have most of the 4th left and an unused fifth one, and about 2 1/2 yards of 36" wide natural muslin. I'm going to batt it using warm 'n natural so this way it doesn't show through the muslin. *please ignore my husbands shoes, in 7 years I've yet to sway the man from black gym shoes*
Now this is the girls quilt. It's made using a rail fence style but as you can see NOTHING matches up to be a rail fence :p And I'm ok with that! I had some seaming issues at the bottom so there are little button adornments to try and hide it, this is the misadventures of a beginner quilter after all! As you saw in the previous post I used rick rack and cotton lace to embellish it. My daughter did see it and loves it but she doesn't yet know it's for her. Made using 2 Soiree honey buns.
Very few left over pieces, maybe 5 or 6 squares, it wasn't enough for a full row. I did score a Soiree charm pack for $5.21(!) on ebay so I'm going to piece the back with those and possibly some white muslin. Maybe large pinwheels??
So is it everything y'all hoped for and more?!

hold up!!
What's this?! This can't be another quilt! Just how psychotic can I get by attempting to work on 3(!) quilts at once?! Well, I only have one thing to say, My name is Audrey and I'm addicted to Moda pre-cuts. My latest purchase as you can see is an Oh Cherry Oh charm pack by Me & My Sister Designs for Moda. And don't worry, I've already ordered a 2nd charm pack to be sure I have enough.
Yes, crappy photo but oh well. I don't know if you can tell what exactly I'm doing but I'm going to attempt a pinwheel quilt! Not sure if it's going to be all pinwheels or if I'm going to do a solid square in between each pinwheel block. We'll see. My 2nd fabric is just a bleached white muslin.
What are the lines you ask? See that little 'ruler' thingy in the photo? Made by Omnigrid for Fons & Porter, it's a quarter inch seam marker. It's 1/2 inch wide, has a line down the center, and each end is cut at a 45 degree angle. You line up that angle with the corner of your square, line it up diagonally with the opposite corner and draw lines on either side of the ruler. You then stitch on these two lines and cut down the middle and you have two triangles! Saves time from cutting each square of fabric separately into triangles.
There's no rush to get this quilt done so it might not appear as frequently as the other two. Each Oh Cherry Oh charm pack contains 33 squares, I have 2 so I'll have 66 squares or 132 triangles, we shall see what comes of it!!

so it's been a bit
I've finished making the 9 patch blocks for my son's quilt. I've cut them all into 4s and even got the 'sashings' done for it. Heck I've even stitched the first row together!!! I'm way impressed with myself. The 2nd honey bun came for the girls quilt so I'm going to be pressing those strips and get to stitching on those. I have to be careful when I sew hers because she'll catch on, my little guy is oblivious :p
Here is the quilt top all laid out on my kitchen floor (minus 'sashings'). Not sure which way is the right way, I don't really think there is a right way LOL!

THE BIG REVEAL!!!!
Alrighty, here's the fabric! Now, there is one honey bun missing but I couldn't wait any longer to reveal the good stuff! There was a mix up with my order and I got some Joel Dewberry swatches that are very pretty and I just may have to buy for another quilt. I've already sewn 3 lengths of 6 strips from the honey bun and might not need that 2nd one but we'll see, I might just make some shams with them.
For the girls quilt I'm using Soire'e honey buns by Lila Tueller for Moda. This has got to be the sweetest fabric for any little girl! I'm doing a rail fence type quilt for this one as the strips are perfectly cut for it.
And for the boys quilt I'm using Arcadia by Sanae for Moda. I've chosen charm packs for this quilt and am doing a disappearing 9 patch. The solid squares are just unbleached muslin.
I'm SO excited to get these quilts underway and finished! My 1/4" foot came in today as well and I'm in love! I think my next purchase will be a darning/free motion foot, I'm getting an itch to stipple them myself.
